Williamston Theatre audiences may remember Julia as Shirley Valentine (Pulsar and Thespie Awards), in the world premiere of Summer Retreat, Eleemosynary, and as the director of Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol. A few notable Michigan credits include the title role in Mary Stuart (Andes Award and Wilde Award nom), Calendar Girls, and Games Afoot at Meadow Brook Theatre, as “Ann Landers” in Lady With All The Answers (Wilde Award), The Impossibility of Now, and as director of The Importance of Being Earnest at Tipping Point Theatre. Her recent pre-pandemic performance was as “Fraulein Schneider” in Cabaret (Wilde Award) at the JET. Julia has played many stages across the country, Off Broadway, Kennedy Center, Asolo Theatre, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, and as the Narrator of Peter and the Wolf with the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl. Some film credits include: Highland Park, Trust, Salvation Boulevard, Pilot Error and Batman v. Superman. Julia received her MFA in Acting many moons ago from the University of Iowa and was the recipient of the National Irene Ryan Acting Award Scholarship. She is now a part-time adjunct professor, having taught at both Eastern Michigan University and Washtenaw Community College and is also an audition coach for high school students pursuing college acting conservatory programs. During the long hiatus from live theater, Julia was recorded at her home performing a monodrama by Y York as part of the playwrights Lady Who series, which you can find on YouTube.
